The meeting also discussed the arrangements for the rehabilitation of the fish landing center in the “Faqam” area in Al-Buraika Directorate, with the support of the World Bank, and the conditions and specifications related to the project.
The meeting stressed the need for joint coordination between the specialists in the Gulf of Aden Fisheries Authority and the United Nations Development Program when implementing interventions and projects in the fisheries sector and involving fishing cooperatives to ensure optimal benefit from these projects and strengthen the role of the relevant parties in the work environment.
In August 2023, the Yemeni government inaugurated the re-docking of ships at the Fishing Port, with the docking of commercial ships, after a hiatus of more than 12 years.
The Yemeni government confirmed at the time its keenness to restore the operation of the port and complete the removal of 22 sunken ships in the port in order to implement the first phase of the project to rehabilitate the Fishing Port, which is considered the largest economic facility, with the support of the German Development Bank.
