The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that it had carried out six strikes against a Houthi drone submarine and 18 anti-ship missiles.
In a statement published on the CENTCOM website, it said that between 2:50 and 11:30 p.m. (Sana’a time) on Monday, “CENTCOM conducted six self-defense strikes that destroyed an unmanned underwater vessel and 18 anti-ship missiles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.”
The statement said that the targeted weapons posed “an imminent threat to commercial vessels and US Navy ships in the region.”
“These actions are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US Navy and commercial vessels,” the statement added.
The Houthi group has not announced any damage to its weapons from the US or British strikes, but it announced on Monday evening that the northern Yemeni province of Saada had been subjected to five US-UK airstrikes, after it announced that the western province of Hodeidah had been subjected to 13 US-UK airstrikes.
In the ongoing confrontation between the two sides, the Houthi group said on Monday evening that it had targeted a US ship called “Pinocchio” in the Red Sea with naval missiles and achieved a “precise hit” on it, an operation that was confirmed by CENTCOM, which stated that the ship is “owned by Singapore and flies the Liberian flag.”
In “solidarity with Gaza,” which is facing a devastating Israeli war with US support, the Houthis have been targeting Israeli or Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones since November, stressing their determination to continue their operations until the war on Gaza is over.
