Explosion near commercial ship off Yemen coast

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued a warning after receiving a report of an explosion near a commercial ship transiting off the coast of Yemen on Monday.
According to the UKMTO report, the captain of the unnamed vessel reported hearing the sound of an explosion approximately 71 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni coastal city of Al-Saleef.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. The US-led coalition forces operating in the region have launched an investigation regarding the incident while No party has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
Since November, the Houthis have increasingly targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, in what they claim is retaliation for Israeli strikes in Gaza.
In response, the United States and Britain have carried out airstrikes and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen since mid-January.
