Media: Casualties and missing in attack on a US ship in the Gulf of Aden

Western media reported on Wednesday that there were casualties and missing persons in the attack on the US ship that was targeted off the coast of Aden, Yemen.

Reuters news agency quoted the owner of the targeted ship southwest of Aden saying that “contact was lost with 20 crew members and 3 armed guards”.

Meanwhile, informed sources told the agency that “3 sailors from the targeted cargo ship in Bab al-Mandab were missing and 4 were injured with burns while the crew were left”.

For his part, a US official told the Qatari news network “Al Jazeera” that “the ship that was attacked off the coast of Aden is owned by a Liberian  company”.

The US official said, “We are aware of reports of casualties among the crew of a ship that was attacked off the coast of Aden”.

Earlier, the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority announced that an Indian warship is providing support to the US merchant ship that was hit near the coast of Aden in Yemen.

The British maritime security agency “Ambri” reported that, regarding the tanker near Aden in Yemen, reports confirmed that the tanker was fired and suffer damage.

Other reports said that rescue operations are underway and that some of the crew have already escaped on lifeboats.

The British authority said that it had received a report of calls for a merchant ship via radio communications from a party describing itself as the “Yemeni Navy” ordering it to change its course.
