Houthis: Attacks on US and UK Ships Will “Not Stop” with Gaza Truce
Yemen Monitor/Sana’a/Special:
The Houthi armed group said on Tuesday that it would not stop targeting US and British ships even if the Israeli war in Gaza Strip stops.
The Russian news agency TASS quoted Nasser al-Din Amer, deputy head of the Houthi group’s press office, as saying that the group will stop attacking Israeli ships if a ceasefire agreement is reached in Gaza Strip on the terms of the “resistance.”
However, “reconsidering the decision to attack US and British ships will not depend on a truce in the Palestinian sector,” Amer said.
He added that “the attack on US and British ships is another matter related to the participation of the US and Britain” in attacking Yemeni territory.
On Monday, US President Joe Biden sounded optimistic about a temporary truce in Gaza Strip next week with what he described as “progress in the consultations in Paris.”
Axios reported that Washington’s administration is trying to reach agreements before the holy month of Ramadan, which begins on March 11, 2024.
Since November 19, the Houthis have carried out dozens of drone and missile attacks on maritime trade in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in the name of supporting the Palestinians who have been facing a brutal war by the Israeli occupation for months. In response, the United States and Britain have carried out attacks on Houthi sites in Yemen.
