Russia insists on negotiating with the Houthis rather than bombing them

Yemen monitor/ Sana’a / private:

Russia insists on negotiating with the Houthis instead of bombing them, condemning the ongoing US air strikes on Yemen.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western moves in Yemen reduce the desire of the Houthis to sit down at the negotiating table.

The United States, with the support of its allies, has conducted six raids on the Houthis in Yemen since January 11th.

“The most important thing now is to stop the attacks on Yemen, the more the Americans and the British led air stricks, the less the Houthis intention for dialogue,”Lavrov said and

during his Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he completed  ” the United States and its allies had trampled on all conceivable rules of international law by attacking Yemen” .

According to the head of Russian diplomacy: all Washington’s justifications for it’s strikes against the Houthis seems to be  pathetic.

And about impact on the negotiations with the Saudis to end the war in Yemen, Lavrov said that those negotiations were already started showing it’s success. However, Lavrov found it difficult to determine how realistic it is to resume such negotiations after the US attacks on Yemen .

Sergei serebov, a Russian expert on Yemeni affairs and a researcher at the Russian Orientalism Institute, said that air strikes will not solve anything in Yemen, nor will it change the regime in Sana’a, and it seems that the Americans are determined to fail the peace negotiations in Yemen.

Serebov said in an interview with the “Russian Azpastya network” that the American operations in the Red Sea have nothing to do with securing global navigation, but with ships linked to Israel.

He pointed out that it is clear that the US-led naval coalition aims to put pressure on the Houthis only, and wants to push the Saudis to resume fighting against the Houthis.

He also stressed that even with this, Riyadh will not  fight against the Houthis again and the United States plans will not succeed.

he concluded that “It is not in the interest of the Houthis or the Saudis to derail the negotiating process to end the ongoing war”.
