Oxfam Warns of Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen Due to Years of War

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Oxfam The non-governmental organization  warned on Monday that Yemen is suffering from a deep division, a serious economic situation, and a devastating humanitarian crisis.

The organization affirmed in a statement that collapse is common in the territories occupied by the Houthi group and the areas under the control of the internationally recognized government.

It criticized “human rights violations, the detention of humanitarian workers, and unacceptable aid conditions.”

It pointed out that the authorities in the south have failed to “provide basic services or stabilize the currency.”

It also stressed that the local currency has decreased by more than 90 percent in government-controlled areas over the past ten years, pushing essential goods such as food, water, and medical care out of reach for most people.

It said that the north has become increasingly difficult and dangerous for the humanitarian community to operate and provide vital food, cash, and other assistance.

Oxfam also criticized US President Donald Trump’s decision to cut funding for humanitarian programs in Yemen.
