Iranian Foreign Minister Rejects Trump’s Directives on Yemen’s Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected U.S. statements calling on Tehran to halt its support for the Houthis, asserting that the US has no right to dictate Iran’s foreign policy.

This came after U.S. military strikes targeted the Houthis, resulting in the deaths of 21 people. These airstrikes were the first since Trump took office.

In a post on Platform X, Araghchi called for an end to what he described as the “killing of the Yemeni people,” emphasizing that the world holds the US responsible for what is happening in Palestine, where he noted that over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed.

The U.S. military pressure comes at a critical time, as the Houthis have launched attacks on ships in the Red Sea, claiming that these actions support the Palestinian cause.

The US has resumed strikes against the Houthis after a halt during the Gaza ceasefire.

In his statements, Trump threatened to use “overwhelming deadly force” to achieve his objectives against the Houthis, demanding that Iran stop its support for them.

Trump has also reinstated the “maximum pressure” policy against Iran while indicating a possibility of negotiations over its nuclear program—something Tehran refuses as long as the pressure continues.
