Rights Organization: Release of 13 Female Prisoners in Marib Strengthens Women’s Rights

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Association of Abductees’ Mothers welcomed the decision by the authorities in Marib province to release 13 female prisoners, a step that reflects a commitment to improving women’s rights in the region.
This move comes in response to the “Women for Freedom and Peace” initiative launched by the association, which called for the release of detained women.
The association clarified that the release included Yusra Al-Shater, following the submission of an official memorandum requesting her release. It also confirmed that it met with Al-Shater’s family to convey their suffering to the relevant authorities.
In a related development, the association met with several local government officials, submitting the initiative’s memorandum to the Attorney General, the Political Security, and the Central Prison. Discussions were held regarding the possibility of releasing detained women, and assurances were received that the matter would be addressed urgently.
Despite these efforts, the Houthi group has not responded to the association’s initiative, as no detained women under their custody have been released despite meetings with mediators.
It is worth noting that the association launched this initiative at the beginning of the new year, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained women.
Additionally, field visits were conducted to the women’s prison in Marib, where the association provided psychological support programs and legal awareness sessions for the detainees, as well as essential supplies for women and children.
To further strengthen women’s rights, the association has also launched a hotline to report any woman detained in the context of the armed conflict in Yemen, regardless of her affiliation or background.
