Egypt Links Red Sea Security to Resolving Crises in Yemen, Gaza, and Sudan

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Egypt has emphasized the importance of reaching solutions to regional crises, including the Yemeni crisis, the situation in Gaza, and the Sudanese crisis, to ensure the security of the Red Sea.

This statement was made during the opening of a training program on maritime security in the region, with the participation of Arab and African countries bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Egyptian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Ambassador Abu Bakr Hanafi, highlighted the impact of these crises on the security and stability of the Red Sea region. He stressed the need for international and regional cooperation to safeguard navigation security in this vital waterway.

Hanafi underscored the importance of activating the Council of Arab and African States bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden as a framework to enhance cooperation and coordination among coastal nations. He also noted Egypt’s responsibility in supporting efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

This statement follows the announcement by the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority of its success in towing an oil tanker that had previously come under attack, reaffirming the need for joint international and regional efforts to protect navigation in this strategic area.

The training program, organized by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding with support from the Japanese government, includes the participation of civilian and security personnel from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Djibouti, Sudan, Somalia, Jordan, and Egypt.
