Saudi Project Announces Removal of Over 1,000 Mines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen Within a Week

The operations room of the MASAM demining project in Yemen announced that its teams removed 1,058 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices last week, in a new step to enhance security and stability in Yemen.

MASAM operations clarified in a statement that its teams removed 1,034 unexploded ordnance and 24 anti-tank mines last week, while 197,407 square meters of Yemeni land were cleared.

The Director General of  MASAM project, Osama Al-Qusaibi, announced that field teams have removed 484,401 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since the project’s launch until February 28th. Since the beginning of the project, 323,278 unexploded ordnance and 8,197 improvised explosive devices have been removed.

Al-Qusaibi added that the engineering teams of MASAM project have so far managed to clear 65,860,124 square meters of Yemeni land that were booby-trapped with mines, munitions, and improvised explosive devices.
