Saudi Project to Combat Malaria Epidemic in Yemen

Al Arabiya TV reported today, Saturday, that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre signed a joint cooperation agreement with the World Health Organization to implement the second phase of the project to combat and prevent the malaria epidemic in Yemen, with a total value of $12 million.

The agreement was signed by the General Supervisor of the Center, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom. The agreement is an extension of the first phase of the project.

The second phase includes a range of preventive activities, including the distribution of 1,300,000 impregnated mosquito nets, the spraying of more than 500,000 homes with residual insecticides, in addition to carrying out other spraying campaigns with a variety of insecticides, purchasing and providing medicines for adult, child, and pregnant women patients with malaria, as well as securing 1,000,000 rapid malaria detectors, in addition to securing medical consumables for laboratories and various types of investigation activities, as well as supporting the Yemeni national program with the necessary devices and equipment to address the epidemic.

This agreement comes within the framework of Saudi Arabia’s endeavor through the King Salman Relief Center to support the efforts of international organizations to combat the spread of epidemic diseases in various countries of the world.
