Yemeni Civil Society in the Face of Conflict: Challenges and Transformations

Al-Mukha Center for Strategic Studies organized a panel discussion on “The Components of Civil Society in Times of Conflict,” where participants discussed the challenges facing Yemeni civil society in light of the ongoing conflict.

The seminar, held in Marib Governorate (eastern Yemen), addressed the reality of Yemeni civil society and the systematic repression practiced by the Houthi group against its components.

It also discussed the challenges facing the components of civil society in various regions of Yemen.

The participants in the symposium presented recommendations to the concerned parties, including:

  • Demanding that the international community intervene to stop the Houthi group’s violations against those working with civil society organizations.
  • Strengthening the capacities of Yemeni civil society organizations and involving them in peace and transitional justice processes.
  • Starting governance, administrative reforms and institutional building.

The symposium stressed the need to strengthen the role of civil society in promoting development and democracy in Yemen and preserving the social fabric.
