Yemeni Foreign Minister: Curbing Houthi Influence Contributes to Middle East Stability

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shay’e al-Zandani, affirmed that “Yemen will be happy again one day,” noting that the Kuwaiti-Yemeni relations are historical, deep-rooted, and distinguished over the past decades.

In a statement to Al-Siyassa newspaper, al-Zandani said that Kuwait, its leadership, government, and people have always stood by the Yemeni people, supporting them through thick and thin, and never hesitated to extend a helping hand and assistance to Yemen whenever needed. There is ample evidence on the ground in various regions of Yemen of the charitable work of the State of Kuwait and its contributions to the Yemeni people.

He added that his visit to Kuwait aims to strengthen, develop, and deepen these relations, reflecting the Yemeni government’s recognition of the important role played by Kuwait in reaching a solution to the crisis in Yemen.

Al-Zandani called on the Houthi group to “come to their senses,” follow the path of peace, and realize that they cannot rule the Yemeni people by force, and that there is no place for sectarianism. He added, “They can only be a small part of the Yemeni society’s fabric, and they must realize their position and size; this situation cannot continue indefinitely, and the overwhelming will of the Yemeni people will prevail in the end.”

Regarding the Yemeni government’s stance on foreign interference, he said, “We have repeatedly affirmed that the external interference was from Iran, which is why the Houthi coup militias acquired this situation through obtaining advanced weapons and economic support from Iran. We have called on Iran on more than one occasion to cease interfering in Yemen’s internal affairs and to leave Yemen to its people.”
