Yemeni Interior Ministry: 70 Killed or Injured in Traffic Accidents Over the Past Week

The Yemeni Interior Ministry announced that 9 people were killed and 61 others were injured in traffic accidents that occurred in the liberated areas (from the Houthis) over the past week.
The security media affiliated with the ministry stated that the liberated areas witnessed 97 traffic accidents during the past week, resulting in the deaths of 9 people and injuries to 61 others, with 33 of the injuries classified as severe.
Quoting traffic police reports, the ministry added that the traffic accidents, which caused material losses of more than 28 million and 180 thousand riyals, were distributed among 61 vehicle collisions, 18 pedestrian hit-and-run accidents, 9 collisions, 6 vehicle rollovers, and 3 falls from vehicles.
The traffic police attributed the causes of the accidents to violations of traffic rules and regulations, primarily exceeding the speed limit, dangerous overtaking, and driver distraction, in addition to neglecting maintenance and not checking the vehicle’s technical readiness before driving, mechanical breakdowns, and the condition of the roads and their technical suitability, as well as negligence on the part of pedestrians and road users.
