Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni Teachers’ Union in Taiz city announced on Saturday the suspension of the strike in all schools and educational facilities in the governorate.
In a statement, the union affirmed its continued follow-up with the responsible authorities and work through the committee formed by the governor of Taiz.
It also emphasized the continuation of exerting pressure whenever necessary to meet the demands of teachers.
The union stated that it had reached several agreements with the concerned authorities, most notably the governor of Taiz’s commitment to pay the cost-of-living allowance, similar to other liberated governorates.
Agreements were also reached to implement settlements, particularly those related to qualifications, work nature allowance, and rural allowance. The Civil Service will begin receiving applications for these, and follow up on the completion of procedures for delayed allowances for the years 2014-2020 and additional allowances.
Additionally, the situation of teachers who were employed in 2011 will be settled regarding basic salary, allowances, and transfer to Aden, among other issues. Those present at the meeting assumed responsibility for following up on the implementation of these issues and raising matters that require the intervention of the state leadership and government, such as increasing the minimum wage and reviewing the financial value of salary scales in line with the continuous decline in the purchasing power of the national currency.
