The British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, has revealed an upcoming international conference in New York aimed at mobilizing political and economic support for Yemen.
In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, she stated, “We are working tirelessly to strengthen support for the Yemeni people, and we will be holding an international conference to support the Yemeni government in New York early this year (2025)”.
She added that her country is fully aware of the existing challenges, including the difficult economic situation, and that the aim of the conference will be to secure political and programmatic support for the government and institutions to support efforts to provide basic services.”
Sharif explained that the UN Special Envoy for Yemen is leading efforts and engaging in important discussions with Yemeni parties on this matter.
She added, “Having a stable currency means, in turn, stable prices, which helps Yemenis plan for the future.”
She continued, “We have supported the Yemeni government in accessing Yemeni funds held in the United Kingdom, and these funds have helped the government secure foreign currency at a time when the country is suffering from a worsening economic crisis.”
