WHO: Cholera Deaths in Yemen Rise to 861 Since Start of 2024

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday that cholera deaths in Yemen have risen to 861 since the beginning of 2024.

In a report, the organization stated that “the number of cases of cholera and acute watery diarrhea, along with related deaths, has been steadily increasing since March.”

It explained that “the peak of the outbreak was in mid-July, when more than 10,000 cases were recorded weekly.”

The report added that “between January 1 and November 24, 2024, a total of 245,776 suspected cholera cases were reported, including 861 deaths.”

Despite ongoing efforts to contain the outbreak, the organization noted that challenges persist, including floods, heavy rains, and security conditions.
