Yemen Urges Urgent International Support for Economic Rescue Plan
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen renewed its call on Wednesday for urgent international support for the Yemeni government to respond to the priorities of the current phase, including the economic rescue plan, amid the deteriorating economic conditions and the collapse of the Yemeni currency to its lowest level ever.
This came during a meeting of the Presidential Leadership Council chaired by Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, the council’s president, and attended by all its members, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.
According to the agency, the meeting discussed domestic developments at all levels, primarily the latest developments in the economic, development, service, and humanitarian situation, which were exacerbated by the Houthi attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lines.
The Presidential Leadership Council listened to briefings from its members on the tasks assigned to them, as well as government reports on the level of implementation of comprehensive reforms, and council decisions and recommendations related to enhancing security and stability, improving the living and service conditions of citizens, and containing the repercussions of the systematic measures of the Houthi militias that are destructive to the national economy, and ensuring the continued fulfillment of the state’s mandatory obligations, including paying the salaries of employees, and the necessary credits for importing essential commodities.
The Council commended the results of its recent meeting with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, the US, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Britain, which reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and the main international allies, and the strengthening of common goals to support peace, security, and stability in Yemen.
The Council praised the unified position of the international community on the Yemeni issue and its firm commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, the Yemeni government, and the Yemeni people, alleviating their humanitarian suffering, and supporting their aspirations to restore state institutions, development, stability, and peace.
The Council stressed the priority of improving public services and resources, and moving forward in reform efforts, including activating integrity mechanisms and combating corruption in accordance with standards coordinated with regional and international partners.
