UAE-backed Entity Calls for Self-Rule in Socotra
Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
Components funded by the United Arab Emirates have announced the formation of a new entity called the “Socotra National Council,” which has adopted the demand for self-rule for the island located on the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Horn of Africa near the Gulf of Aden.
This component claimed that this step taken by the council came in response to the suffering of neglect and marginalization.
It added that this decision reflects the will of the people of the archipelago to manage their affairs, achieve sustainable development, and protect their unique cultural and environmental identity.
The Yemeni government or the Presidential Leadership Council has not commented on these demands and moves supported and funded by the UAE.
This comes in conjunction with popular calls and calls from political components for the government to move to end the Houthi coup, and calls for unity in political and military decision-making in a strategic manner to end the coup, restore state institutions, and liberate the country from Iranian tutelage, following the overthrow of the former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
