MASAM Removes Nearly Half a Million Mines in Yemen

Teams from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s MASAM project continue their tireless efforts to neutralize the threat posed by mines indiscriminately planted throughout Yemen, endangering innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. Since its inception until the end of the third week of November, the project has removed more than 470,000 mines.

During the third week of November, the project managed to remove 840 mines in various Yemeni regions, including 29 anti-personnel mines, 129 anti-tank mines, and 682 unexploded ordnance. This brings the total number of mines removed this month to 2,349.

During the third week of November, the MASAM team removed 4 unexploded ordnance in the Zinjibar district of Abyan governorate, 162 unexploded ordnance in Aden governorate, two anti-tank mines in Al-Khokha district of Hodeidah governorate, and one unexploded ordnance in Hays district. In the Qa’ataba district of Dhalea governorate, the team managed to remove one anti-personnel mine and one unexploded ordnance.

In Lahj governorate, the team managed to remove 14 unexploded ordnance in the Al Wahta district and 22 unexploded ordnance in the Mudaraba district. In Marib governorate, the team removed 4 unexploded ordnance in Al-Wadi district, and 12 anti-personnel mines and 120 anti-tank mines in Marib district.

In Shabwa governorate, the team removed 400 unexploded ordnance in Bayhan district, 16 anti-personnel mines, and 4 anti-tank mines in Osilan district. In Taiz governorate, one anti-tank mine and 7 unexploded ordnance were removed in Zabid district, one anti-tank mine and 36 unexploded ordnance were removed in  Al-Mokha district, one anti-tank mine and one unexploded ordnance were removed in the Muez’a district, and 30 unexploded ordnance were removed in Al-Mazzaffar district.
