Amidst Continued Currency Collapse, Yemeni Presidency Continues Discussions on Economic Files

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen continued its meetings on Sunday to discuss the economic and political situation in the country, amid the national currency’s decline to its lowest level ever.

The official Yemeni News Agency reported that the Presidential Council held a meeting chaired by Rashad Al-Alimi, the council’s president, to discuss the developments of the political, economic, administrative, security, and military situations.

The agency added that the council listened to a brief review of its previous decisions and orders, and the required procedures and treatments in coordination with the relevant authorities, especially regarding dealing with the changes in the national currency exchange rate, basic commodities, and the measures taken to ensure the government’s continued fulfillment of its mandatory obligations, and moving forward with its comprehensive reforms supported by the regional and international communities.

The meeting also discussed reports on the performance of the executive authority over the past period, a new update on economic, financial, and monetary indicators, and the proposed recommendations to contain the repercussions of the continued halt of oil exports and the rise in shipping costs on living conditions as a result of the Houthi attacks supported by the Iranian regime.

The council also discussed the latest military and security developments, in light of the Houthi group’s escalation in a number of fronts where it suffered heavy losses in terms of its elements and military equipment.

The council praised the high vigilance demonstrated by the armed forces and all military formations in confronting the attacks of the Houthi group and thwarting its repeated attempts to return the situation to the square of all-out war, without caring about the suffering of the Yemeni people, which has lasted for a long time.

The Presidential Leadership Council warned of the continued exploitation by the Houthi group of the Palestinian people’s plight and their just cause to achieve their narrow interests, and to mobilize more deceived citizens to target and attack civilian facilities, and to multiply the humanitarian suffering that it created by its coup against the national consensus in September 2014.

According to the agency, the council will continue to hold its meetings this week to complete the discussion of the issues on its agenda in light of local, regional, and international developments.
