The Houthi armed group announced on Friday evening that it had targeted a commercial vessel in the Arabian Sea with several drones.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that “the group’s forces carried out an operation to target the MEGALOPOLIS ship in the Arabian Sea using a number of drones and the operation successfully achieved its goals.”
Saree stated that “the targeting of the ship came in response to the violation by its owning company of the decision to ban entry into the ports of occupied Palestine,” a decision issued by the group.
On Thursday, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi announced that the number of targeted ships linked to the Israeli “enemy” and its allies, the US and Britain, had reached 196 since November of last year.
In response, the US and Britain have been launching airstrikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi group since January 11. As a result, the Houthis have announced an expansion of their operations to include US and British ships.
