The United Nations has reported over 186,000 cholera cases in Yemen, with 680 deaths related to the disease across the country in the past six months.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in its humanitarian situation report broadcast on Yemen TV yesterday, Tuesday, stated, “Cholera has continued to spread throughout Yemen, with children under five and the elderly accounting for a quarter of all cases.”

It added that “health authority data indicates a cumulative total of over 186,000 suspected cholera cases and 680 related deaths in all 22 governorates of Yemen since mid-March 2024.”

The report explained that the epidemic, which has been ongoing for six months, is unique in that it is driven by contaminated water and food.
