Yemeni Interior Minister Ibrahim Haidan emphasized on Sunday the unity of the Yemeni revolution and the connection between the September 26 Revolution in Northern Yemen and the October 14 Revolution in Southern Yemen, which culminated in the achievement of full independence on November 30, 1967.

In a speech marking the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution, he stated: “The revolutionaries of September 26 recognized that the imamate regime in Northern Yemen could only be overthrown with the support and cooperation of the revolutionaries from Southern Yemen. The same applies to the revolutionaries of October 14; they realized the difficulty of their mission and that British colonialism could only be defeated through collaboration and support from the revolutionaries of September 26.”

He added, “For this reason, the unity of struggle between the revolutionaries of Northern and Southern Yemen during the period of struggle against the tyranny of the imamate and British colonialism presented a unique model of the greatness of national unity among the Yemeni people, despite the fact that the geography at that time was not unified. These unified revolutionary efforts led to the overthrow of the imamate in the North and the expulsion of the colonizers in the South, resulting in the greatest event in Yemen’s history, represented by the achievement of national unity on May 22, 1990.”

He pointed out that “the Houthi coup on September 21, 2014, followed the path of the imamate and led to a disruption of life, depriving the people of their rights, plundering state revenues and military and economic resources, igniting wars against the Yemeni people, and spreading chaos, destruction, and devastation. They formed alliances and coordinated with extremist groups and Iranian smuggling gangs to flood Yemen and the region with hashish, drugs, and weapons smuggling, including unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic missiles.”

He clarified that “the immortal September 26 Revolution revealed the reality of the Yemeni people’s condition and the severity of the catastrophe they lived under the authoritarian and repressive imamate regime, which entrenched the triad of ignorance, poverty, and famine, alongside the spread of diseases and epidemics that devastated the Yemenis.”

He noted the “racial and class discrimination and the systematic division entrenched in society, tribes, and families that prevailed during the period of the priestly imamate rule, where a certain group enjoyed health, educational, and cultural privileges while the rest of the people were deprived of these benefits.”
