Yemeni Film Wins Grand Prize at Casablanca Film Festival

The Yemeni film “The Exhausted” has won the grand prize at the 5th Casablanca Arab Film Festival, beating out 12 other Arab films. Directed by Amr Jamal and starring Abeer Mohammed and Khaled Hamdan, the film was celebrated for its powerful storytelling and cinematic quality.

In another triumph for Yemeni cinema, the short film “The Bucket,” directed by Adel Al-Himi, won the award for Best Direction. This double victory marks a significant achievement for Yemen’s film production.

The Yemeni ambassador to Morocco, Izz al-Din al-Asbahi, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, highlighting its significance amid the challenging circumstances facing Yemen due to the ongoing war.

He also emphasized the positive role of cinema in promoting peace, coexistence, and acceptance of others, noting that it is an integral part of a nation’s collective memory.

The announcement of the grand prize for feature films, awarded to “The Exhausted,” stated that the jury unanimously agreed on the film’s deservingness, with well-deserved praise for this Yemeni achievement.
