The Republic of Yemen has announced its solidarity with Egypt in response to statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Philadelphia Route.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “strong condemnation of the statements made by the head of the Israeli entity’s government regarding the Philadelphia Route, which included claims aimed at justifying the ongoing Israeli violations of international laws and norms.”

Yemen affirmed its full support and solidarity with the Republic of Egypt regarding these provocative statements, rejecting the Israeli military presence in the Philadelphia Route and the Rafah crossing.

The Republic of Yemen also reiterated its complete support for Egypt’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire and end the suffering of the Palestinian people.

It called on “the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people for peace, a dignified life, and the establishment of their independent state with East Quds as its capital.”

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that achieving the objectives of the war on Gaza “passes through the Philadelphia Route,” stressing that Tel Aviv would not withdraw from it.

He added, “The moment we left the Philadelphia Route at the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, there was no barrier for the massive infiltration of weapons, military materials, and the machinery necessary for manufacturing rockets, as well as the equipment needed for tunneling.”

He continued, “All of this was under the sponsorship, direction, and funding of Iran. Gaza has become a huge threat to the State of Israel because there was no barrier on the Philadelphia Route.”

In response, Egypt, through a statement from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed its rejection of Netanyahu’s statements, characterizing them as “an attempt to obstruct reaching a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal in Gaza.”

For months, Egypt, Qatar, and the US have been leading indirect negotiations between “Israel” and Hamas; however, no agreement has been reached due to Israel’s refusal of Hamas’s demand to end the war, withdraw its forces from Gaza, and allow displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza.

With U.S. support, “Israel” has been waging war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 135,000 Palestinian casualties and injuries, the majority of whom are women and children, and more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and a deadly famine.
