Aden city witnessed a horrific explosion at a gas station in Al-Mansoura district on Friday evening, resulting in dozens of casualties and widespread panic among residents.

According to a well-informed source who spoke to Yemen Monitor, the explosion occurred at approximately 9 pm on Friday. Residents of Aden, particularly those in Al-Mansoura district, were startled by a violent blast that originated from  Al-Taj gas station, located near the health complex and fish market.

The source explained that the fire initially erupted in a tanker refilling the station, quickly spreading to the station itself and causing a massive explosion. This prompted many residents to rush to the scene, only to be met with further explosions, resulting in casualties among workers and bystanders.

The source confirmed that the civil defense and firefighting teams arrived at the scene belatedly, as is often the case, to extinguish the fire, transport the injured to nearby hospitals, and continue searching for additional victims.

The station’s tank was completely destroyed, with debris scattering across nearby shops and residential areas. Residents of Al-Mansoura,  have been living in fear and panic since the explosion, the cause of which remains unknown.

The terrifying incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with activists calling on authorities to launch a campaign to relocate gas stations away from densely populated residential areas.

Activists urged the local authorities in Aden to revoke all recently issued licenses for the construction of gas stations in residential areas. They emphasized the need to revoke licenses for gas stations located in the down town and on major streets to protect the safety of citizens and their property.
