A report issued by the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations on Sunday revealed that the Israeli airstrikes targeting Al-Hodeidah port in western Yemen on July 20, 2023, destroyed 800,000 liters of fuel owned by the program.
The report stated, “On July 20, nearly 800,000 liters of fuel belonging to the World Food Programme, allocated for its on-demand services, were destroyed.”
It added that the destruction of this fuel was “due to airstrikes on the Hodeidah port,” referring to the Israeli airstrikes on the port, which is under the control of the Houthis.
On July 20, Israel launched a series of airstrikes on the Hodeidah port, resulting in dozens of casualties and significant material losses estimated by the Houthi group at around 20 million dollars.
This occurred a day after a drone attack by the Houthi group on Tel Aviv, which resulted in the death of one Israeli and injuries to nine others, in response to what they termed “genocide” in Gaza.
At that time, the Houthi group affirmed that the Israeli attack on Hodeidah would only increase their “determination and steadfastness” in supporting Gaza sector, pledging operations that would “disturb the peace” in Tel Aviv in response to the attack, according to posts on the “X” platform by the group’s spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam and member of the Supreme Political Council Mohammed Ali al-Houthi.
