The General People’s Congress party in Marib Governorate held a celebratory speech on Saturday, marking the 42nd anniversary of the party’s founding, amid calls to end its fragmentation into multiple factions since the death of its former president, the late Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, at the hands of his former allies, the Houthis.

During the ceremony, attended by military and political leaders, a large number of sheikhs, notables, and party supporters, several speeches were delivered. These speeches, in general, covered the history of the party’s founding in August 1982, with the participation of various national forces.

The speeches also highlighted the stance of the leadership of the General People’s Congress branch in Marib Governorate, which was quick to reject the coup from the outset and align itself with legitimacy, the state, and the republican system. The speeches emphasized the branch’s active participation in confronting the coup by establishing fronts with forces, parties, and tribes in the governorate, as well as with the honorable sons of Yemen. They also highlighted the branch’s confrontation of the Houthi coup and its presence in various fronts of honor and heroism, creating national epics in defense of the governorate, the republic, legitimacy, and Yemeni identity. The speeches acknowledged the party’s ongoing sacrifices, including martyrs and wounded.

In a televised speech via video call, the First Deputy Chairman of the Party and Speaker of the Yemeni House of Representatives, Ahmed Obeid bin Dagher, affirmed that celebrating the anniversary of the founding of the General People’s Congress in Marib holds multiple meanings, as it is the land of heroism, steadfastness, and defense of people, land, freedom, justice, equality, the republic, and unity.

Bin Dagher called on “the leaders, members, and supporters of the Congress to unify their ranks, to rise above the fractures and divisions, and to achieve unity in leadership and unity in purpose, the purpose of defending the republic and unity.”

Bin Dagher emphasized that “the unity of the Congress is a necessary requirement to strengthen the overall national orientation towards cohesion and unity of ranks,” wishing all the fighters of the Congress and its supporters, the national army, and the resistance in all fronts and positions of honor to win the victory over the nation’s primary enemy, the Houthi terrorist militia. He stated, “Marib and all the people of Yemen in it have thwarted the Houthi plans and ambitions to control Yemen, and have shattered Iran’s aspirations to dominate the region.”

For his part, the Deputy Governor of Marib, Ali Muhammad Al-Fattmi, affirmed that the General People’s Congress and all political parties and organizations in the governorate stand to the side of ending the Houthi coup, restore state institutions, and stressed the importance of alignment and cohesion.
