The polio vaccination certificate is Mandatory for Yemeni children to enter Jordan

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom

Jordanian authorities have made it mandatory for Yemeni children under the age of 15 to have a polio vaccination certificate in order to enter the country.

Yemenia Airways, the national carrier of Yemen, stated in a memo that the Jordanian authorities have stipulated that all Yemenis under the age of 15 must have a polio vaccination certificate to enter their territory.

According to the memo, the Jordanian authorities emphasize that the certificate must have been issued no more than a week before travel.

It was confirmed that any traveler under the age of 15 who does not have this certificate will be returned, and the violators will be held fully responsible.

Last month, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) confirmed the recording of 257 polio cases, due to the Houthis’ prevention of vaccination campaigns for four years. This comes as the second round of vaccination campaigns in areas under the control of the Yemeni government begins, targeting more than 1.3 million children under the age of five.

In September 2020, the Yemeni authorities announced the reappearance of polio, particularly in the governorates of Saada and Hajjah, which are under Houthi control, stating that this was due to the Houthis’ repeated prevention of the polio vaccine in these governorates.
