The commander of the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council in the Mahfad district of Abyan governorate, southern Yemen, was killed along with one of his aides in a clash with a military vehicle belonging to the Giants Forces, in what appears to be a friendly fire incident.
The Abyan Security Directorate said in a statement, “Hussein Mohammed Hussein Al-Rabdh, the commander of the Mahfad Security Belt, and his personal bodyguard, Turki Lakmah, were killed in a confrontation with a vehicle belonging to the Giants Forces, while a Security Belt force was moving to the Mahfad district.”
The Abyan Security statement added that “the Security Belt forces tried to stop the armed men on board the vehicle belonging to the third brigade of the Giants Forces, the 32nd Brigade stationed in Shabwa, and asked them to surrender their weapons, before they refused and clashes erupted.”
It noted that “the incident resulted in the death of the commander and one of his aides, while all those on board the military vehicle, numbering three, were killed.”
The Abyan Security leadership called for “the formation of an investigative committee from the relevant authorities to investigate the incident, and to hold accountable the elements colluding with terrorist elements and to take the most severe punitive measures.”
It is worth noting that the Modiya district in the same governorate witnessed the killing and wounding of dozens of members of the support and backup brigade affiliated with the STC last Friday, following the explosion of a car bomb driven by a suicide bomber, which targeted a military barracks east of the district.
