EU Removes Former Yemeni President and His Son from Sanctions List
Yemen Monitor / Marib / Special:
The European Union’s sanctions list revealed on Friday that it has removed former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his son Ahmed from the international sanctions list after having included them in 2014.
According to the international sanctions website, the EU has removed the entries for the following individuals from Annex I of Decision 2014/932/CFSP and Annex I of EU Regulation No. 1352/2014: Ali Abdullah Saleh, former President of the Republic of Yemen, and Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, his eldest son.
Tens of millions of dollars belonging to Saleh’s family are held in accounts in EU member states, in addition to numerous companies that have been frozen.
The removal of “Ali Abdullah Saleh” from the sanctions list allows the family to regain control over those funds.
Ali Abdullah Saleh ruled Yemen for 33 years and was subjected to sanctions in 2014 for aiding the Houthi rebels in seizing control of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, and obstructing the political transition process.
