UKMTO Reports Small Explosion Near a Ship off Yemen Coast
Yemen Monitor/News Room
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Saturday that a small explosion occurred near a vessel approximately 170 nautical miles east of the Yemeni city of Aden.
Citing the ship’s master, the UKMTO stated in a report that “an armed security team observed a small explosion near the vessel.” The ship’s master confirmed that there were no casualties or damage to the vessel and that all crew members were safe.
The UKMTO had initially reported the incident as occurring southwest of Aden.
This incident comes after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone attack in Tel Aviv in July that killed one person. In retaliation, Israeli warplanes struck the Houthi-controlled Hodeidah port in western Yemen, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to around 90 others, according to the Houthis.
Since November, the Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, claiming they were linked to Israel or heading to Israeli ports. They have also launched missiles at Israeli towns, most of which have been intercepted.
