The Saudi Project for Mine removal (MASAM) announced its success in removing a number of mines and explosive devices that were washed away by recent floods in the districts of Maqbana and Hays in the governorates of Taiz (southwest) and Hodeidah (western Yemen).
MASAM stated that Team 26 of the project managed to defuse two explosive devices and a mine on Saturday. One device was removed from the Maqbana district of Taiz, while the other device and the mine were extracted from Wadi Dhimi in the Hays district of Hodeidah.
The commander of Team 26 confirmed that these mines, especially those equipped with thermal cameras, posed a real threat to the lives of civilians in affected villages such as Suwaihira, Dhimin, and Masaybir.
He added that thanks to reports from citizens and cooperation with the local police, Team 26 was able to locate and successfully remove these dangerous mines. The team also conducted intensive awareness campaigns for children and adults about the dangers of mines and how to handle them if found.
The team commander emphasized that “this operation is part of ongoing efforts to protect civilians from the dangers of mines planted by the Houthis in several Yemeni areas,” calling on all citizens to cooperate with engineering teams and report any suspicious objects.
