Heavy rains that swept across Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, have led to the collapse of houses, the cutting off of roads, and significant physical damage to agricultural lands and properties.
Villages of Shamir and Mirab in Mqabna district, and parts of Shara’b Al-Runa district in Taiz Governorate, witnessed heavy rains on Thursday evening, resulting in flash floods.
Local residents reported that several homes in the villages of Shamir and Mirab in Mqabna district, west of Taiz Governorate, were partially or completely destroyed due to the heavy rains and floods that hit the area.
The rushing torrents of water washed away dozens of palm and mango trees in several farms in Mqabna district. They also swept away cars and buried several wells, including the well and water project system of Al-Ghabari villages, the well and water project system of Kadama village, and wells located in Wadi Al-Nashma along with the generators for these wells, as well as other wells in various sub-districts and areas of Mqabna district.
On Thursday, the United Nations announced that more than 158,000 people have been affected by floods in Yemen since the beginning of 2024.
