India Appoints New Ambassador to Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Riyadh/Exclusive:

India has appointed a new ambassador to Yemen, the Indian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

Suhail Ajaz Khan, the Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has also been appointed as ambassador to Yemen.

He is expected to assume the position soon.

The new Indian ambassador said in a post on X that he looks forward to working closely with the internationally recognized government “to strengthen India-Yemen relations.”

The Indian embassy had temporarily started operating from its office in Djibouti on April 14, 2015, due to the political and security situation in Yemen.

On Tuesday, the UN envoy to Yemen announced an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group to operate flights from Sana’a International Airport to India and Egypt and increase flights to Jordan, as part of an agreement to de-escalate the economic situation.
