To Protect Commercial Ships …… German Frigate Hamburg Heads toward the Red Sea
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom
The German navy announced on Monday that the frigate Hamburg is heading to the Red Sea to participate in protecting commercial ships as part of the EU mission in the region.
The frigate has already sailed from the port of Wilhelmshaven with 240 military personnel on board, the navy said in a statement. It was scheduled to make a port call on the Greek island of Crete before heading to the Red Sea.
Earlier this year, another German frigate, Hessen, participated in the EU’s military mission in the Red Sea. It remained there for eight weeks before sailing back home.
EU countries are participating in a mission in the Red Sea – aimed at deterring recurrent missile and drone attacks by Houthi militias in Yemen.
