The International Organization for Migration warned on Friday evening of acute diarrheal and cholera outbreaks in Yemen due to the ongoing conflict.
According to the organization’s statement, it is intensifying its efforts to address acute watery diarrhea and cholera outbreaks across the country, which has already seen more than 30,000 suspected cases since the beginning of the crisis.
The organization added that from 2016 to 2022, Yemen faced the largest cholera outbreak reported in modern history, with over 2.5 million suspected cases and 4,000 deaths amid the ongoing conflict.
The latest wave has intensified, particularly due to its spread across multiple governorates, exacerbated by heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, increasing the risk of water pollution.
Health experts predict that the number of suspected cases could reach 255,000 by September 2024 if readiness and response levels are not raised to optimal levels.
