The EU on Friday announced new sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities for their support to the Houthis with missiles and drones.
The European Commission said in a statement that the new round of sanctions on Iranian entities and individuals comes “due to their involvement in supplying Russia and armed groups in the Middle East and the Red Sea with missiles or drones.”
The statement added that the sanctions list includes Iranian entities and individuals active in the manufacturing, supply and sale of spare parts for drones.
The sanctions list includes the Iranian “Khamenei Air Defense” organization, the naval force of the Revolutionary Guards, and Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani.
Two days ago, Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, said that Tehran had supplied the Houthis in Yemen with anti-submarine ballistic missiles.
The agency said: “The sea-launched ballistic missile called (Ghadr) has now been provided to the Yemeni fighters (Houthis),” adding: “Now, the missile becomes a weapon capable of posing serious threats to US interests and its main ally in the region: the Zionist regime.”
According to the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Iran has the largest number of ballistic missiles in the region, and is also a major producer of drones.
This comes due to the Houthis continuation in carrying out attacks on commercial ships and tankers in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea since November 19. In response, the US-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes on Houthi positions in different parts of Yemen since the beginning of this year, in response to their attacks in the Red Sea.
