Yemen Monitor/News Room

A civilian was seriously injured on Friday following an explosion of a landmine left by the Houthi group in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen.

Human rights sources reported that “Abdulmalik Al-Zazaei” was injured by the explosion of a Houthi landmine while performing his security duties at a charitable foundation’s premises in the Abu Halfa area of Al-hali district.

According to the sources, the explosion resulted in the amputation of one of the victim’s feet and one of his hands.

On Thursday, the United States accused the Houthi group of laying two million mines in various areas of Yemen, a task that will take 8 years to clear.

This comes as the Yemen Mine Observatory (a non-governmental organization) announced the death of 41 civilians in mine explosions in various parts of the country since the beginning of 2024.

In July of last year, the International Committee of the Red Cross warned that unexploded remnants (mines) pose a threat to millions of Yemenis.
