The President of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad Al-Alimi, affirmed on Tuesday the commitment to move forward in unifying “the military and security forces and reorganizing them under the umbrella of the Ministries of Defense and Interior, in accordance with the power transfer declaration.”
This was stated during an extensive meeting led by the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of Staff, heads of institutions, commanders of forces, regions, military fronts, and the Joint Operations Authority, coinciding with the ninth anniversary of the start of Arab coalition operations against the Houthis on March 26, 2015.
According to the official Yemeni news agency, Al-Alimi stated that “the deep belief that the principle of national armies as the safety valve of nations can only be achieved within the framework of a unified operational decision at various levels,” pointing to the requirements of the military institution to effectively respond to the stage’s changes and their implications, including enhancing deterrence capabilities and high readiness for any options.
He mentioned that “the southern provinces of the country today represent the focal point in the battle and the project to restore the state institutions.”
He added, “The Houthi militias continue to rely on the option of war despite their significant failures over the past years,” confirming the council and the government’s understanding of the requirements of the current circumstances and their potential paths in this regard.
